Learn the 1-needle coptic stitch–a binding method that allows the book to lay flat and highlights the exposed stitching. Come enjoy the joy of crafting your own creative coptic journal from scratch!
Tools and other items:
- bone folder
- self-healing cutting mat (12 x 18 size is good)
- (A scrap piece of matte board or heavy cardboard--like a paper pad backing-- that you don't mind cutting on works too!)
- 12" or 18" ruler
- awl
- craft knife like xacto or olfa (and an extra blade or two)
- scissors
- pencil and eraser
- 2 washcloths or small towels/rags (ones you don't care about) for keeping hands clean and dry
Meet the Instructor
Janet Guertin (she/her) is a book artist and graphic designer. Through the craft of bookbinding, paper folding, and collage, with both fine and found materials she creates artist books, albums, and helps others discover the joy of book arts and reconnect with the tactile world. Coptic stitch is a binding method that she considers a favorite, enjoying it for both the design possibilities and functionality. She has exhibited in various shows in and around the southeast and her work is held in collections at UNC-Charlotte and the UNC School of the Arts. Janet has taught at Sawtooth School for Visual Art and served as a co-leader of Triangle Book Arts.

This class is limited to 10 students. Cancellations by My Muses Card Shop will receive a full refund. Cancellations made 1 weeks or more before the event may receive a full refund. Cancellations made up to 3 days before the event can receive a 50% refund. No refund or exchanges for cancellations less than 3 days before the day of the class.
