Class size: minimum 5, maximum 12 participants

Learn the foundations of modern brush pen calligraphy in a relaxed, design-led workshop focused on beautiful materials and a finished piece worth keeping. Participants will learn how a brush pen responds to pressure, practice foundational strokes, and work through simple lowercase letterforms before creating a personal name or family-name artwork on translucent vellum using vibrant acrylic brush pens. The finished lettering will be layered over colored cardstock and completed with a seasonal decorative detail, creating a polished piece ready to frame or display. No previous calligraphy experience is required. All materials are provided, and participants may choose a single meaningful word instead of a name if they prefer. This class is designed for adults who are curious about modern calligraphy and enjoy refined, hands-on creative experiences.

 

No previous lettering or art experience is required. Beginners are absolutely welcome.

 

Class Duration
2 hours

Acrylic brush pens, translucent vellum, colored cardstock, practice sheets, instructional materials, mounting supplies, and any embellishments.

Nothing! All materials needed to complete the project will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring reading glasses or any personal tools they prefer for close detail work.

 

Artist Bio :

Sonia J. Pal is an artist, calligrapher, surface designer, and educator, and the founder of North Carolina–based creative studio ASquareWatermelon®. Her work moves between lettering, pattern design,fine art, historical craft, and hands-on creative experiences. As an instructor, Sonia is known for breaking techniques into approachable steps while giving students enough structure to understand what they are doing— and enough freedom to make the work their own. She has taught through museums, libraries, creative organizations, and community spaces, creating welcoming workshops for adults who simply want to learn, make, and enjoy the process.

This class is limited to 12 students. Cancellations by My Muses Card Shop will receive a full refund. Cancellations made 1 weeks or more before the event may receive a full refund. Cancellations made up to 3 days before the event can receive a 50% refund. No refund or exchanges for cancellations less than 3 days before the day of the class.
