Margraten is a fairly small town in The Netherlands with a huge WWII Cemetery honoring American soldiers.
Even as a kid I was impressed and intrigued by the perspective/visual illusion created by the white crosses on the green lawn, ever changing from the viewpoint from which I was observing them.
Many, many years later I took some artistic freedom by creating my “Margraten” quilts.
I changed the colors: deep red at the bottom to symbolize the bloodshed; the black vertical lines stand for a very dark time In history.
The yellow/green at the top stands for “Dawn”- a chance to always start new again…
The Phoenix re-arrises.
