CRISPR is a powerful new technique for genetic editing that allows humans to intervene in evolution. Computer vision and image recognition are at the heart of AI (Artificial Intelligence) and are revolutionizing everything from the food we eat to the treatment of diseases. It uses a targeted gene-editing system that removes DNA from a specific genetic location, much like deleting words from a line of text in a word processing document.

Jennifer Doudna (University of California, Berkeley) and Emanuelle Charpentier (Max Plank Institute, Germany) collaborated for 8 years on this gene editing system that has won the 2020 Chemistry Nobel Prize.
