At Home in the Triangle $815.-

2008

Dimensions: 28” X 24”

Machine Pieced & Machine Quilted in Cotton Fabric and Thread.

This was made for a DOQ (Durham Orange Quilters) challenge at the time.

The theme was “At home in the Triangle”.

The rules were as follows: to use at least 2/4 fabrics given. I used the striped fabric on some of the roofs as well as the light blue flowery one, the pink and the white with green vertical dotted lines for the body of the houses.

Some tiny buttons were used as embellishment.

Needless to say I went all out with this “Theme”:

  • using fabrics with triangles printed on top to cut the shapes for the center star composed of triangles.
  • representing images of RDU as well as “the Well” on UNC Campus inside some of those triangles.

-   paper piecing using (tri)angular shapes: The Carolina Lily, The Dogwood, the Cardinal, as well as various trees so abundant in N.C.

  • representing two rivals in sport: Duke and UNC, unintentionally leaving out NC State.
  • on the back a pieced perpetual Triangle surrounded by triangle printed fabric.
  • the odd shaped triangles in the corners is fabric designed by Kaffe Fassett. The beautiful blues and greens seem to capture the essence of having  one’s home in the Triangle of North Carolina.
