Fascinated by abstract art and basic design I chose one of the oldest quilt configurations, the Four Patch, as the basic quilt block for this diptych.

With only 4 value gradations in 2 contrasting colors from the opposite side of the color wheel I created 2 different small quilts that can each stand on their own. However hung right next to each other a whole new dynamic comes into play.

The stark square Four Patch block design is echoed in the smaller scale straight line quilting to underline the “grid” feel of this two part piece.
