Radiant Encounter
2009
Made at NC Quilt Symposium 2009 during the workshop “Instant Art Quilts” by Ellen Lindner. We tore fabrics in specific (eyeballed) increments only to recompose a background following some basic rules about values, while very much at random at the same time. Being used to stitching precise seams, this “raw edge” approach was challenging for me!
Yet to this day I feel good about trying a raw edge method.
The fabric I used for this piece was a hand-dyed by Laura Wasilowski. I added hand stitched embroidery to the piece to give it more texture while using her hand-dyed threads.
