Machine pieced and quilted with use of a walking foot.

The idea for the subject matter goes back to my childhood in the Netherlands, where it can be rainy, cloudy and windy. Every Summer my family would travel to Southern Europe (Italy, France) to catch some much desired sunlight. So much sunlight that the houses in those regions often have outdoor shutters or indoor louvers. It always made me curious as to what was going on behind the covered windows… This is a study in value: The blue in the respective three vertical columns is from the same solid fabric. Yet placed next to lighter or darker ombré shades it appears to take on a lighter or darker value of it’s own. It creates a visual illusion.
