Sparkly Blaze
2009
Dimensions: 19” X 27”
Made at NC Quilt Symposium 2009 during the workshop “Instant Art Quilts” by Ellen Lindner. We tore fabrics in specific (eyeballed) increments only to recompose a background following some basic rules about values, while very much at random at the same time. Being used to stitching precise seams, this “raw edge” approach was challenging for me!
Yet to this day I feel good about trying a raw edge method.
The sparkly blaze name was inspired by increased wild fires lately.
Climate change seems to be on the move…
The fabric I used for this piece was commercial. For the embroidery I used Laura Wasilowsky’s hand-dyed thread to add texture to the piece.
