Medium: Quilt
Machine pieced and quilted with use of a Walking Foot.
The idea for the subject matter originated during a performance of the Bolshoi Ballet. They danced “Don Quixote” in Summer 2009 at a theater in Chapel Hill during the American Dance Festival. The dancers were grouped in squadrons (a unit of military organization) and moved in quadrants over the stage to express the blades of a windmill.
The white quilting lines reinforce that same image. My home country the Netherlands is also famous for its windmills.
In the case of Don Quixote (Gentleman of La Mancha) they stand for passion/drive for projects we are inspired to pursue.
The actual design was inspired by the backing of this quilt.
