January 18th 2025, Saturday 9 am - 12 pm
Class size: minimum 5, maximum 15 participants
There is a need to add nature to our...strategies...that reconnects the soul to the natural living world.
Learn about Nature-Based Expressive Arts, the therapeutic approach that brings the arts and nature together to provide beneficial effects for both human and nonhuman worlds.
Participate in the Mandala imaginative art-making experiential with Kathrine Cays MPS, ATR-P, to
transcend verbal expression alone, strengthen relationships, promote altruism in the group, and
cultivate a sense of acceptance, value, and belonging.
Accessible to families, and people of all skill sets.
Prior to the workshop, find time to bring a feeling of stillness to yourself by sitting comfortably
and taking three long inhales and three long exhales. After a feeling of stillness is reached,
spend some time walking outside. Mindfully gather items found in nature suitable in size for your
workspace and construction of your art piece.
Kathrine Cays is a 2023 MPS graduate from the Creative Art Therapy department at Pratt Institute and
holds a BA in Studio Art and Creative Writing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is
a Certified Art Therapist (ART-P) by the Art Therapy Credentials Board and a candidate for Registered
Expressive Arts Therapist by the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association. Kathrine also holds a
professional certificate from the SWAN program (Supporting Wellness Through Art and Nature).
Kathrine’s deep connection with the natural world began in her youth. In the early 1980s, she
collaborated with the Hopi and Yaki tribes in Arizona to protect their lands from colonial encroachment.
Her art, writing, and therapy work reflect a relational view focusing on the intersection of humanity and
Nature, emphasizing altruistic love. As a naturalist, she practices mindful food gathering and ecosystem
care to support future generations.
In 2016, Kathrine founded Teleios Studios, LLC, where she writes poetry, creates multidisciplinary
artwork, and facilitates therapeutic nature-based expressive arts workshops. She is also an art therapist
at Bridges Art Therapy in Carrboro, NC. Since 2006, small presses have published her poems, and her
artwork has been exhibited in various group and solo shows.
